Barnett Berry, Fred Frelow, and Frelow & Associates completed a chapter entitled, More and Better Learning Time: Strategies for Improving Teaching for the book Learning Time: In Pursuit of Education Equity. Importantly, Dr. Frelow worked for nine years at the Ford Foundation, implementing the Foundation’s More and Better Learning Time educational initiative. Dr. Berry served as the President and CEO of the Center for Teaching Quality, a Ford Foundation grantee. The authors write, “We learned that schools, which successfully provide students with powerful learning opportunities, use more learning time to better organize curriculum around the needs of students and their communities. And with expanded time, they empower teachers to have more agency and the opportunity to lead; deploy an adaptive curriculum developed with community-based organizations; and embrace their teaching colleagues as leaders themselves to spread their expertise.”
